Lesson 1: Verbal Section (Free)

The main question type that is found in the verbal section of the SCAT is verbal analogies. An analogy is just a comparison between two words. You will be presented with a pair of words that go together in a certain way. You will have to choose the pair of words from the answer choices that best go with the original pair. Here is an example:

apple : tree ::

a. peach : pair
b. branch : bird
c. pan : chef
d. egg : chicken

The words apple and tree go together in a certain way. What is the connection between them?

An apple comes from a tree. The correct answer will have a pair of words with the same relationship. An egg comes from a chicken, making that the correct answer.

apple : tree :: egg : chicken

In this lesson, we’ll look at some basic strategies, as well as some common relationships that show up frequently in these questions.

This is only an excerpt from the full Verbal Analogies Lesson. The rest of this lesson is only available in our full SCAT Courses.
