What is the SHSAT?
The Specialized High School Admissions Test, or SHSAT, is a standardized test used for high school admissions for Specialized High Schools in New York City. It is administered to students in eighth and ninth grade each year in October and November. Roughly 25,000 students take the test each year, with only 5,000 earning acceptance to one of the schools. The test takes 3 hours to complete and assesses abilities in English and mathematics.
As high school admissions become increasingly competitive in New York City, getting a high score on the SHSAT is more important than ever. Preparing your child for the test and familiarizing them with its specific structure and question types can go a long way toward achieving a high score.
